The Shetland Sheepdog Club Of Victoria rescue was started 30 years ago by Bethia Tennyson & Beth Bubniw. Two long standing members of the S.S.C.V. Inc. and both sheltie breeders since 1959, who have also served on Committee for many years. In their 30 years of running the rescue service they have helped find loving new homes for over 120 shelties, and now have handed the reins over to Marita Biggs to continue their good work.
The rescue service has help from several members who cannot keep another dog, but are willing to collect one for us if it is in their area and we are unable to do so and the situation is urgent. We bath and groom all of our Rescue dogs and have them checked by our vet and treated if necessary. They are then kept with one of the club volunteers involved in resuce until a new owner is found, which gives us time to assess personality, temperament, etc. They are also de-sexed and immunized if necessary.
After these dogs go to a new home, we give them time to settle in and then check to make sure the dog and owner are both happy. New owners are required to return the sheltie to us if for any reason they are unwilling or unable to keep it. They are also encouraged to keep in contact with us should any problems arise or if they have any queries.
